This week, I became a pilot and took off over the hill in my jeep. This week, I became a tourist, and checked-in/lounged at Princess Heights  Luxury Boutique Condo Hotel. This, week I had temporary memory loss that I live and work on this island. Who says a staycation can't be pure bliss? But, why Princess Heights? Read on.

Spacious Interior, Clean & Secluded

If you are like me, you need a getaway space that is large, clean and clutter-free. It is a little hard to explain, but my spirit is ultra-sensitive to the visual settings of a room. I can tell if I would be able to rest there without visual assault or get ambush by disorder. If you get that, you got it. If you don’t, here’s another reason for my choice.

Princess Heights is practically off the busy grid. The neighborhood is quiet and you are cradled between the hillside and the babbling ocean, secluded. You know that is exactly what you need to unwind and slow down from your treadmill lifestyle.

Best of all, you get to meet the sun before the rest of the island. Some people live for sunsets, oh, but a sunrise has this essence of new beginnings to it, possibility, and don’t forget waves washing your spirit clean all day. You’ll hear its lulling strongest and sweetest in the morning and that, my friend, beats all alarm clocks.

Fully-Equipped

For some people, vacation means eating out at fancy or laidback restaurants and if that’s your vibe, a handful of restaurants pepper the shoreline close to Princess Heights. For me, staycation means ‘throwing down’ in a fully-functional kitchen and dancing about in it with a creativity that ends on my taste buds.

For me, to stay as long as I want and go when I want to the kitchen is exciting, especially if I stocked it with foods that make me come alive, especially if I am on lock down, lazy and recharging. Remember, this is a getaway.

Another plus is that I can take my food creations to the dining balcony and savor the view. If cooking is not "work" for you,  you'll enjoy a Deluxe One or Two-bedroom suite. If you could care less, a Deluxe Studio Suite with a small kitchenette isn’t a bad idea. Either way, you shall have your balcony.

Gym, Pool and Other Amenities

There is so much room that you can do your morning workouts in your suite, head down to the gym or break the surface of the freshwater pool. If you don’t care to make stairclimbing your workout, there are elevators. At the end of the day, you can sink into a tub of warm bubbling water and not freak out if you’ll run out of conditioner or soap in case you forgot to bring any. They provide full-size shampoo, conditioner, body wash and fluffy-white towels.

Online Booking and Staff

Booking online was easy. As mentioned before you have three choices: a Deluxe One-Bedroom Suite, a Deluxe Studio Suite or a Deluxe Two-Bedroom Suite. the Deluxe One-Bedroom Suite had my name written all over it and my mentees were coming over for the day. I had to share some of this goodness. Close to my check-in time when I was still running errands before I could really break away from my routine life, I received a call from a Princess Height staff member as they were expecting me at a certain time.

The staff was awesome, very polite. In addition, check-in was fun, fast and simple. I was accompanied on my ride to the alternative entrance, which suddenly made me a key-toting member of a gated community and took away the stress of climbing a ton of stairs with luggage and groceries. The staff was helpful and down-to-earth. One called near the end of my first day to check-up on me; And as simple as it sounded, it made being their guest even more special. I loved that because I didn't get a different treatment because I am local.

When to Go

Speaking of special, I took advantage of their Summer/Fall Special that trickled down to the first week of October. It's the lowest rates all year long: a Deluxe Studio is $115, the Deluxe One-Bedroom, $155 and the Deluxe Two-Bedroom, $219. It worked well because the hotel didn’t seem that busy. And we had the pool to ourselves for quite some time until the raging heat of the sun chased us back indoors.  Whether you go in the July or December, it doesn't change the fact that this hotel delivers optimal value.

What to Take With You

First, take your stressed-out self, your need-rest-like-nobody's-business self. You don't need books, or pillows because you'll melt into their king-size beds. You don't need music because nature does it best. You can take your vehicle and someone, who would enjoy this escape like you will.

As I said earlier, you can take your groceries with you or have them grocery shop for you. Don’t forget your swimsuit. You might not feel like going into the pool until you actually get there and suddenly you find yourself mixing and matching sports bras to get your dip in, true story. If you are anything like me, take your socks for the air-conditioned floors. Cold has never been my thing. I'm an island girl to the core.
